School Visits

Parker is available for full-day, half-day, and one-hour school visits

Parker’s most popular presentations are listed below. They work best as 50-minute classroom workshops but can be adapted for large assemblies and for online formats.

Exploring Ethics Through Fiction

Through interactive, choose-your-path games, as well as writing exercises and group discussions, students will explore fun and fascinating ethical questions presented in Parker’s science fiction novels, The Echo Room and Strange Exit. Students will learn about either "The Trolley Problem" (with Strange Exit) or "Prisoner’s Dilemma" (with The Echo Room), two thought experiments that explore issues of trust and responsibility. You've never seen students come to life during a school visit the way they do during these debates!

Tension and Suspense

Students will learn how writers ramp up their stories by exploring literary devices in Parker’s science fiction thrillers, Strange Exit and The Echo Room. Fun and creative writing activities will help students create their own suspenseful story moments. Even reluctant writers and readers love this fun writing workshop!

Teen Writing Intensive

(Includes a digital workbook for each participant at no extra cost)

Three 1.5-hour workshop sessions teach teen writers...

  • How to find ideas and turn them into plots

  • How to create compelling characters

  • How to add tension and suspense to a story

  • How to reach their writing and publishing goals

Free escape room kit

Click the button to download a free pdf kit

What is an escape room? It's a game in which participants pretend they are locked in a room and must solve a series of puzzles to escape. This easy-to-use kit comes with everything you need (minus a few common household objects) to set up an escape room themed around The Echo Room. Participants don't need to be familiar with the book to play. The kit is free to you as long as your school, library, or store has copies of The Echo Room on hand for participants to borrow or purchase.

NEW: The “door lock” app that goes along with the kit is here (supported on Google Chrome and Safari).
